Each year Chapter 526 provides a full scholarship for one or more Auburn-area Young Eagles to attend a session of the EAA Air Academy, a fun-filled live-in summer camp experience held on the grounds of the EAA Aviation Museum, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In 2020 the Chapter will send two Young Eagles to Advanced Air Academy. The Advanced Air Academy is sold out, but Chapter 526 has secured reservations for two slots: one for July 14-22, and the other for July 24 – August 1. Transportation to and from Wisconsin is ordinarily the responsibility of the Young Eagle’s family, but the Chapter will consider requests for financial aid. EAA Air Academy staff members are experienced in meeting unaccompanied minors at the Appleton and Green Bay airports.
For 2020 the Chapter has partnered with the Auburn Aviation Association to fund one of AAA’s annual flight training scholarships. We have combined the selection process for the Air Academy scholarships with the selection process for the flight training scholarships. A single application can be made for both types of scholarship. Applications will be accepted online only, beginning January 1, 2020. Deadlines are January 31, 2020, for the Air Academy and February 29, 2020, for the flight training scholarships.
Complete information including rules, guidelines, and a link to the online application form can be found here. Note that essay questions appear near the end of the application. The Google online form lacks provision for saving an in-process application. Applicants may wish to have a word processing program available for use in writing and polishing their essays, and for counting the number of words. Essays can then be pasted into the Google form. Formatting will typically be lost, so minor editing may be necessary after pasting.
