Each year Chapter 526 provides a full scholarship for an Auburn-area Young Eagle to attend a session of the EAA Air Academy, a fun-filled live-in summer camp experience held on the grounds of the AirVenture Museum, Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Transportation to and from Oshkosh is ordinarily the responsibility of the student’s family, but the Chapter will consider requests for financial aid.  As of early November 2017, roundtrip airfare to Appleton or Green Bay, Wisconsin, from Sacramento was typically $500 - $750 with advance purchase.  EAA Air Academy staff members are experienced in meeting unaccompanied minors at the airports. Chapter 526 is now accepting applications for the 2018 scholarship.  There is no form. The Young Eagle should submit a letter explaining why he/she would be a good candidate.  Include aviation experiences to date, and be sure to mention any specific interests in aviation and aviation-related careers (air traffic controller, airframe and powerplant mechanic, pilot, aeronautical engineer, etc.).  This should be a letter written by the Young Eagle, not by a parent or someone else.  Feel free to include the names and contact information of teachers or mentors whom you would like us to contact with respect to your application.  Letters should be sent to the following address no later than November 27, 2017:
